The National Front of Popular Resistance communicates to the Honduran population and international community the following:

1. The Honduran oligarchy through its representative, the de facto regime of Porfirio Lobo Sosa, executes aceleratedly a plan to continue making itself richer at the cost of stealing from and explotation of the people. Taking advantage of the absolute control it has of the state powers; that they are guaranteed through the use of armed forces, they are relaunching the neoliberal model that has generated so much poverty and dependence in our country, by lending themselves to the privatisation of the public goods, the abolishment of hard won social reforms and the rendering of natural resources.

2. In recent dates, the dictatorship has expressed its intention to close the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH), denying to the population the right to a public education, with the objective of benefiting the big private businesses that convert everything into merchandise.

3. In the same way, they have initiated the political persecution of union leaders whom they threaten with jail for defending the workers’ rights. The dictatorship threatens with not recognising the union’s rights and anulling the collective contract of the union of workers of thee UNAH, which would increase the grave violation of human rights, known and condemned internationally, and would represent a precedent for the dismantling of social wins that costed enormous sacrifices to the opressed classes.

4. The strategy of repression by judicial means complements the terror campaign that they have been developing since the first day of the military coup, in a continuous way and in the last days it has gotten worse with the assassination of the compañeros José Manuel Flores, Francisco Castillo, José Antonio Cardoza, José Carías and Nahun Palacios. All of whom are victims of the State’s security bodies and of the paramilitary organisms, all conforming to the oligarchy answering to demands of persons such as Óscar Álvarez, de facto security minister, or Miguel Facussé, emblematic representative of the oligarchy.

5. Faced with this panorama, we affirm that the only way of returning to an institutional order that guarantees the democratic participation, and that would make possible a structural change of the social  system in a pacific manner, is the installation of a National Constituent Assembly with the popular majority.

6. In this sense we return to announce the realisation of a National Consultation to gather the voluntad of the majority in favor of the process of Refoundation of our country, and in this way having the popular organisation strengthen, and make it inevitable that the sovereign voice of the people be listened to.

We resist and we will overcome!

Comunicado No. 53 Frente Nacional de Resistencia Popular

El Frente Nacional de Resistencia Popular comunica a la población hondureña y la comunidad internacional: 

1. La oligarquía hondureña a través de su representante, el régimen de facto de Porfirio Lobo Sosa, ejecuta aceleradamente un plan para seguir enriqueciéndose a costa del robo y la explotación de pueblo. Aprovechándose del control absoluto de los poderes del Estado, que garantizan por la fuerza de las armas, están relanzando el modelo neoliberal que ha generado tanta pobreza y dependencia a nuestro país, y se aprestan a la privatización de los bienes públicos, la derogación de las conquistas sociales y la entrega de los recursos naturales.

2. En fechas recientes, la dictadura ha hecho manifiesta su intención de cerrar la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras (UNAH), negando a la población el derecho a la educación pública, con el objetivo de beneficiar a grandes empresas privadas que convierten todo en mercancía.

3. Asimismo, han iniciado la persecución política de líderes sindicales a quienes se amenaza con la cárcel por defender los derechos de los trabajadores y las trabajadoras. La dictadura amenaza con desconocer el fuero sindical y anular la contratación colectiva del sindicato de trabajadores de la UNAH, lo que aumentaría la ya grave violación de derechos humanos, señalada y condenada internacionalmente, y representaría un precedente para el desmontaje de conquistas sociales que costaron enormes sacrificios a las clases oprimidas.

4. La estrategia de represión por vía jurídica complementa la campaña de terror que desarrollan desde el día mismo del golpe de Estado de manera continua y que en los últimos días se ha potenciado con el asesinato de los compañeros José Manuel Flores, Francisco Castillo, José Antonio Cardoza, José Carías y Nahun Palacios. Todos ellos víctimas de los cuerpos de seguridad del Estado y los organismos paramilitares conformados por la oligarquía a instancias de personas como Óscar Álvarez, ministro de seguridad de facto, o Miguel Facussé, emblemático representante de la oligarquía.

5. Ante este panorama afirmamos que la única forma de regresar a un orden institucional que garantice la participación democrática y haga posible un cambio estructural del sistema social de manera pacífica, es la instalación de una Asamblea Nacional Constituyente con mayoría popular.

6. En ese sentido volvemos a anunciar el la realización de una Consulta Nacional para recoger la voluntad de las mayorías a favor del proceso de Refundación del país, fortaleciéndose esta manera la organización popular que hará inevitable que se escuche la voz soberana del pueblo.
